From my studio in the Suffolk countryside, I paint gouache portraits that capture the quirks that make your pet yours: the soulful stare, the wonky ear, the look that says "dinner's late."

Every portrait starts with a photograph you love and becomes an original piece, painted by hand in gouache: a velvety, matte paint with soft, rich colour. On heavyweight 250gsm acid-free paper in a warm grey, it gives each portrait a storybook glow that's made to last. Each one is one of a kind, just like your pet.

How to send your reference photos

send me their best side

The best portraits start with a photo that catches them being them: the head tilt, the side-eye, the ears doing their own thing.

● Go for natural light. Outdoors or by a window is perfect, but out of harsh direct sun.

● Get the eyes. Everything lives in the eyes. My trick is holding a treat just above the camera. It works on Flora every single time.

● Send the original. Photos squashed through messaging apps lose the detail I need, so the file straight from your phone is best.

Not sure if your photo will work? Email me a few and I'll happily help you choose.

good questions

  • At the moment, your portrait will be ready 2 weeks after I receive your photos. As my painting diary fills up this can change, so I'll always confirm your date when you book.

  • Don't worry. I'll look at what you send and let you know if anything would help, before I start painting.

  • Of course. Please don't worry about finding the perfect picture. Send me what you have, and I'll do everything I can to bring them back to the page.

  • Your portrait arrives unframed but mounted to fit a standard-size frame, beautifully wrapped and gift ready. If you're local to me in Suffolk or Cambridgeshire, just ask and I can arrange framing for you to collect.

  • Yes, two ways. If you have photos of their pet, book the portrait yourself and it will arrive wrapped and gift ready. Or choose a gift voucher, so they can pick the style and size and send me photos of their own. Vouchers arrive as a hand-finished card, ready to give, and are available for £130, £190 or £270, one for each portrait size. If they'd like a bigger portrait or a second pet, they simply pay the difference when they book. Each voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
